Emirates SkyCargo and Cargolux announce landmark cargo partnership agreement

Emirates SkyCargo and Cargolux Airlines today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a strategic operational partnership in air cargo transportation. This unique and ground breaking agreement, the first of its kind in the air cargo industry between a mainline airline and a specialised freighter operator, will allow cooperation between two carriers with complementary strengths and shared values for customer service excellence. The agreement was signed at the Air Cargo Europe event in Munich, Germany in the presence of Mr Francois Bausch, Luxembourg’s Minister of Sustainable Development & Infrastructure.

Cargolux Group flies profitably through volatile 2016

Cargolux Airlines has proved its qualities once more in the extremely volatile environment of the international air cargo industry. In a year dominated for the major part by worryingly low yields, fierce competition and overcapacity, the airline experienced a robust fourth quarter, one of the strongest in many years. The net profit for 2016 totaled US$ 5.5 million while scheduled freight tonne kilometers grew by 10% versus a market growth of 3.8%. Its worldwide market share reached 3.9%. Cargolux moved up two places to the number six position in IATA’s Top 25 cargo carriers ranking for international scheduled FTKs; the highest position the airline has held during its history.

Cargolux again voted Best All-Cargo Airline

Cargolux Airlines International S.A. has again received the prestigious ‘Best All-Cargo Airline’ award from British trade magazine Air Cargo News during a ceremony at London’s Lancaster Hotel on 22 April 2017. Cargolux was honored for its continued delivery of first-class services to its worldwide customers. Votes were cast by the international readers of Air Cargo News.

Cargolux 747-8F first to reach 1 million hours on the GEnx engine

Five and a half years after entry into service of its first GEnx-powered 747--8F, Cargolux, became the first operator worldwide to fly one million hours with this new engine type and remains GE’s GEnx fleet leader in total operating hours. With the first delivery of the 747-8F, Cargolux also became the launch customer of the GEnx engine that represents a giant leap forward in propulsion technology, using the latest materials and design processes to reduce weigh and improve performance.

Cargolux signs agreement for environmentally friendly beam solution

Cargolux Airlines has signed an agreement with German company Trinkaus-Solutions for the use of its squAIR-timber product. Cargolux is the first airline worldwide to introduce the lightweight material in its operation and currently uses it on all pharma shipments out of Luxembourg.

European Commission re-adopts Airfreight decision

The European Commission has decided to re-adopt a decision against air cargo carriers, including Cargolux. In December 2015, the General Court of the European Union annulled the Commission's 2010 decision in its entirety, including the annulment of the €79.9 million fine previously imposed on Cargolux.

Cargolux honored with its fourth STAT Times Africa award

For the fourth time, Cargolux Airlines was honored with The STAT Times’ International Award for Excellence in Air Cargo in the category International All Cargo Carrier of the Year in Africa at the Air Cargo Africa 2017 conference in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The award was accepted on behalf of the airline by Jonathan Clark, Cargolux Regional Director Africa, at the Gala Award Night on 22 February at the Barnyard Theatre, Johannesburg. Cargolux was selected from a group of nominees by the readers of The STAT Times in two rounds of online voting.

Cargolux adds flower flights for Valentine’s Day

The run-up to Valentine’s Day is a busy time for Africa’s flower growers and shippers who again call on the proven Cargolux services and expertise to bring their goods to European consumers. Throughout each year, Cargolux carries more than 20,000 tons of flowers from African markets which translates to around four million flowers per flight. This year, the airline experienced such strong demand that it operates a large amount of extra flights in addition to its seven weekly scheduled services. Cargolux delivers the flowers to European markets within 48 hours after they were harvested.

Cargolux’s management system successfully renews GDP certification

Cargolux Airlines has successfully passed its GDP (Good Distribution Practice) renewal audit, validating its GDP certification and attesting that the company’s management system fulfills the requirements of the EU directive ‘Guidelines on Good Distribution Practice of Medicinal Products for Human Use’ and of WHO guidelines.
