Live Animals

Among a variety of commodities transported on board Cargolux's B747-400 freighters, the transportation of live animals presents an important part. With over 35 years of experience, Cargolux has become a well-known expert in the industry for safe transportation of live animals. Cargolux's modern freighters and stalls for safe animal transportation are ideally suited for the air transportation of such VIP guests. The temperature on board the aircraft can easily be adapted, with modern air conditioning and ventilation systems creating the perfect environment for the transportation of live animals by air. Comfort and safety of the animal are guaranteed by expert loading and handling staff, and the company ensures that around the globe all Cargolux staff is trained to current IATA Live Animals Regulations. At Cargolux's head office in Luxembourg, the Luxair Cargo Center features a fully certified EU quarantine station. It also includes animal inspection facilities and veterinary services. The 360 m2 complex can accommodate large herds of animals as well as bigger sized animals like rhinos, or valuable race horses. The arriving and departing animals are kept in fully contained and noise-protected areas with temperature and lighting controls, adjustable to suit the different species. Shortest times on ground and on board are a priority, to ensure the well-being of all transported animals.

Since 1981, our company has been a member of the AATA, the Animal Transportation Association, adhering to the principles established by the organization, devoted to the humane transport of animals. Cargolux staff held positions on the Board of Directors of the AATA and as President of the Association from 1995 to 1997. Cargolux also held a seat on the IATA Live Animals and Perishables Board and complies with all IATA regulations and EU Directives of Animal Transportation. The company follows the recommendations from the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and complies with the USDA Animal Welfare Act for which Cargolux is certified.
