| Cargolux welcomes its 13th 747-400F Luxembourg, 23 April 2004 – The 13th 747-400F of Cargolux’s fleet, LX-UCV « City of Bertrange », completed its maiden flight from Boeing’s plant at Everett, Washington, this morning, landing in Luxembourg at 09h00. Before crossing the Atlantic the aircraft stopped by at Seattle to pick up its first cargo load of ferns bound for the European market. The aircraft joins a single-type fleet of 747-400F, one of the most efficient and modern large freight aircraft currently available. With its four independent temperature zones it is notably ideally suited to the transportation of perishable goods and live animals. Its nose-loading door also facilitates the transportation of oversized or long pieces of equipment. This aircraft, equipped with Rolls-Royce engines, is also more environmentally friendly than its predecessor, the B747-200F. It offers a 50% reduced noise footprint and 20% to 50% lower emission rates of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, smoke and nitrous oxides. Cargolux was the first company to fly the B747-400F in 1993. With an average age of 5.7 years its fleet is currently one of the youngest in the air freight sector worldwide. |
