Cargo 2000 Certification For Cargolux

Luxembourg, 2 April 2003 - Cargolux has recently been certified as Phase 1 compliant by Cargo 2000. This means that Cargolux has demonstrated that it can regularly measure and report on the flow of its shipments from airport to airport. To obtain certification, Cargolux shipments on the route Madrid-Luxembourg-Hongkong were measured. Cargolux passed the test with a 100% success factor; all shipments were delivered on time and as promised.

Cargo 2000 is an IATA Interest group that currently comprises 16 major airlines and 10 freight forwarders. Its aim is to enhance air freight performance through the implementation of a quality management system for the industry.

This is achieved by implementing processes that are measurable and supported by quality standards, event monitoring and proactive IT systems. It will improve the efficiency of air cargo, enhance customer service levels and reduce the operational costs of all participants. The business goal is to meet the shipment planning and tracking requirements of the shippers and consignees, who have strongly endorsed the project.

“Cargolux has supported and endorsed the Cargo 2000 initiative since the beginning and intends to further implement these standards across its network,” comments Lucien Schummer, Cargolux VP Strategic and Commercial Development. “Improving our service levels to our customers is a high priority at Cargolux and under constant review. We could only warmly welcome an industry initiative focusing on similar objectives. This certification rewards our permanent efforts in this respect”.

To remain compliant, Cargolux still needs to certify a number of other gateways; London, Los Angeles, Frankfurt and Tokyo. Staff has received training at these stations. A further 11 stations will be measured by June 2003.

In the future, Cargo 2000 certification will be synonymous with outstanding service and reliable procedures. “We at Cargolux are striving for excellence in the services we provide to our customers” says Lucien Schummer “Cargo 2000 certification and involvement will enable us to remain one of the best cargo airlines in the world.”

Cargolux, based in Luxembourg, is Europe’s largest all-cargo airline, operating a modern fleet of 12 B747-400 freighters on a worldwide network, covering 91 destinations, 50 of which are served on scheduled all-cargo flights.
