Cargolux Builds its New Hangar
Cargolux Airlines celebrated the
laying of the foundation stone for its new maintenance hangar
in Luxembourg on 16 October 2006 with an event attended
by a number of dignitaries from the world of politics, finance
and economy. The new hangar gives Cargolux the necessary high-tech tools
and environment to maintain its growing modern fleet. It
is also a testimony to the company’s commitment to
Luxembourg.
The building, which is
200 meters wide, 90 meters deep and 42 meters high, is a
one-of-a-kind project and will be built on the airport premises
next to the new radar tower.
Currently the ground
is prepared for the foundations which are expected to be
laid before the end of the year.
The fully enclosed maintenance
hangar offers room for two B747-size widebody aircraft and
includes spaces for all necessary workshops. Next to it,
a separate building houses energy facilities and a canteen.
The new hangar will shape
Cargolux’s maintenance activities in the future and
supports Luxembourg’s economy because it secures additional
jobs. Today, Cargolux 's Maintenance and Engineering division
employs 390 staff, including 21 trainees.
Cargolux not only strives
to build a modern hangar that conforms or exceeds all current
environmental regulations, it also aims to minimize the
building’s impact on the environment during the construction
phase as much as possible. This includes the traffic to
and from the site, the delivery and storage of materials
and the work itself. Cargolux employs a health and security
manager who guarantees adherence to the most stringent safety
regulations.
