Quiet Operator
Cargolux’s fleet is solely composed of Boeing B747-400F, one of the cleanest and quietest four-engine wide-body aircraft in production today. Its noise footprint at take-off (at 85 dbA) has an area of only 5,7 km2. Most of the older freighters used by competing airlines produce a footprint that is twice as large, or even larger. This includes Boeing’s older 747 model, the B747-200F, the McDonnell Douglas DC8 and MD11F, as well as Russian-built Antonov freighter aircraft. Even the business jets that ferry business people to meetings worldwide are sometimes louder at take-off than the B747-400F. The B747-400F operated by Cargolux are in full compliance with ICAO Chapter 3 noise certification standards, which have been required by the EU for all aircraft circulating in the EU since 2002, and will also meet ICAO chapter 4 requirements when they are enforced from 2006 onwards. |
