| The Cargolux Mechanic AN EXCELLENT REPUTATION The Cargolux maintenance department has an excellent reputation, not least because of its high standards and well-trained staff. Many international airlines entrust Cargolux with the maintenance of their aircraft. Maintaining modern airliners is a complex job, precisely regulated by laws and rules set up by European and American aviation authorities and Cargolux strictly follows these rules. HOW TO BECOME A MECHANIC Cargolux aircraft mechanics are highly qualified experts that go through a thorough training before they take on the responsibility of working on the complex systems of a Boeing 747. Their training includes a two-year apprenticeship that Cargolux offers in cooperation with the LTP Emile Metz. All boys and girls that have completed a 12th year of the Luxembourg technical secondary education (or international equivalent) are eligible for the apprenticeship. THE LEARNING YEARS During the second year of training, the apprentice splits his time evenly between school and working on the job. After a successful completion of the school training, sanctioned by a European Aircraft Mechanic License and a Luxembourg Diploma (CATP), the apprentice will spend three to five years on the job before he or she becomes a fully-fledged aircraft mechanic. The position offers a number of attractive career opportunities, such as team-leader or supervisor. The apprentice also has the possibility to move to other technical departments within the company. WHO DO I TURN TO? If you are interested in an aircraft mechanic career, please contact the Human Resources Department at Cargolux, preferably before mid-July, to learn about training opportunities or the job in general.
