| 1973 - Cargolux goes Jet In 1973, Cargolux entered the jet age. Speed became the determining factor and, inevitably, competition within the cargo sector began to favor the use of jet aircraft. In October 1973, Cargolux took delivery of a DC-8-61freighter. The first DC-8 flight went to Hong Kong with a load of 34 tons of machinery and encouraged optimistic forecasts for the company’s future. In spring 1974, the DC-8-61 was
replaced by a DC-8-55. Cargolux subsequently developed its own fleet of
DC-8-63 aircraft. In September 1975, the company concluded a long-term
lease/purchase agreement for a DC-8-63 aircraft that became the first
Cargolux aircraft under Luxembourg registration – LX-BCV. |
